Mary Closmann Kahle holds a degree in history from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. She recently earned a master's in public history from Texas State University, where she focused on oral history and historic preservation and completed an internship with Preservation Austin. Her master's thesis was based on an oral history project on the Save Our Springs Movement of the early 1990s in Austin, Texas. Mary is a history steward with the Texas Historical Association, and she currently serves on the board of Preservation Austin and as the chair of the Austin History Center Association's oral history committee. Mary frequently writes on issues pertaining to historic preservation in the Austin area. She and her husband Jim live in Austin, where they raised their three children, and they love to putt around town in a 1972 VW Beetle they converted to electric energy.
